Chicago Cubs See Interesting Twists in New Top-100 Prospect Rankings

The Chicago Cubs landed a surprising prospect on ESPN's new top-100 prospect rankings list.

It's that time of year when every outlet begins to release their prospect rankings for the upcoming season, just before MLB Spring Training. The Chicago Cubs have a robust farm system and for the most part, there is a general consensus on who the top prospects in the system are.

However, ESPN's new list from Kiley McDaniel bucks the trend a little bit and has added a surprising twist.

Here is how McDaniel ranked Chicago's prospects among the rest of basebal:

36. Pete Crow-Armstrong, OF
51. Jordan Wicks, LHP
77. Kevin Alcántara, OF

Crow-Armstrong and Alcántara are no surprises. Both project to be productive Major League players and both posses elite skillsets.

Where McDaniel does deviate from the other publications is the addition of left-hander Wicks and the absence of Brennan Davis.

Wicks was a first round pick in the 2021 MLB draft and features a low-90's fastball and two offspeed pitches. He has done well at the professional level and is starting to get noticed.

Davis is a mixed bag among evaluators. He has an incredible skillset and is highly graded, but his injuries have given him a reputation among evaluators and his health is playing a factor in keeping him off of some of these lists.
