Chicago Cubs Linked to Duo of Rockies Relievers at Trade Deadline

The Chicago Cubs could look to add to their bullpen at the MLB trade deadline through a trade with the Colorado Rockies.

The Chicago Cubs have transformed themselves from "sellers" to "buyers" at this season's Aug. 1 MLB trade deadline thanks in large part to an eight-game winning streak.

The Cubs will no longer entertain moving superstar Cody Bellinger and the prospect of Marcus Stroman remaining on the North Side have also increased almost overnight. Now, Chicago has its eyes turned towards who they can add at the trade deadline.

ESPN's Jesse Rogers has linked a duo of Colorado Rockies to the Cubs as potential trade fits if Chicago does indeed to its bullpen.

Brad Hand and Brent Suter were named thrown around by Rogers as two cheap options that could still have a significant impact on Chicago's bullpen.

"Now that the Cubs are certain to add, bullpen needs are a top priority. It's likely the team wants to remain under the first luxury tax threshold, so cheaper additions could be in order," writes Rogers. "Rockies left-handers Brad Hand and Brent Suter fit the bill..."

Chicago's rotation is an above-average unit and players like Jameson Taillon are starting to round into form. The offense has played a significant part of giving the team a positive run differential.

It's the bullpen that needs the most help and has been the main culprit in late-game breakdowns. Adding a few more veteran names to the bunch and allowing manager David Ross some extra names to turn towards could be just the bump the Cubs are looking for to push them into a postseason spot.

It's been a wild ride for Chicago since the MLB All-Star break, but the team's recent performance has instilled enough faith in them from the front office where additions rather than subtractions may take place before Tuesday.
