Cubs Once Again Linked to Free Agent Carlos Correa

A new report has suggested that the Chicago Cubs would come away free agent shortstop Carlos Correa, adding another link between the wo parties.

Another day, another link between the Chicago Cubs and free agent shortstop Carlos Correa. Earlier this week, both the Chicago Sun-Times' Gordon Wittenmyer and MLB Network's Jon Morosi predicted that Correa would sign with Chicago, and now another prediction for the pairing has come in.

On Marquee Sports Networks 'The Reporters', The Athletic's Cubs beat writer Sahadev Sharma predicted that the team would be the shortstop's destination.

Sharma went on to predict that none of the free agent shortstops would get a deal any longer than eight years, as none are at the age that normally would get that type of deal. It makes the path to signing the 28 year old Correa easier to stomach for the Cubs.

It's been rumored that the main hurdle for Chicago in free agency will be years, not dollars, as the team hopes to avoid a repeat of Jason Heyward's bloated contract. Should Sharma be correct in his guess that no shortstop will get up to eight years, it's hard to imagine a team beating out the Cubs for Correa's services.

There is seemingly very real interest between Chicago and the Puerto Rico-native, and it'll be intriguing to watch as winter meetings draw closer.
