Chicago Cubs No. 10 Prospect Viewed as Top Trade Candidate

The Chicago Cubs No. 10 prospect, a right-handed hitting outfielder, is deemed the top early trade candidate for the trade deadline.

From the looks of things, the Chicago Cubs should find themselves in a position to make moves around the MLB trade deadline. After making Craig Counsell the highest-paid manager in baseball, the expectation was for the Cubs to do what was needed to make them a contender.

During the offseason, the front office made impressive moves, but there was certainly more that could've been done. While the start of the season has seen them play well, it doesn't mean there wasn't more to be done from Chicago.

Factor in the injuries to Justin Steele, Seiya Suzuki, and the other inevitable injuries they'll deal with during a 162-game season, adding impact players will be a necessity.

Around the league, the Cubs farm system is viewed as one of the best in baseball. In fact, many do view it as the best.

That makes for an exciting future and exciting now. With a team that should have a chance of winning the National League Central, moving one of their many prospects should be something they look to do.

David Schoenfield of ESPN gave his top trade candidates for all 30 teams, writing that Chicago's top candidate is Alexander Canario.

Canario, who had 17 big league at-bats in 2023, is in a tough position in the Cubs organization. The outfield is loaded and with Pete Crow-Armstrong bound to make an impact at some point, the right-handed Canario doesn't have a clear path to play.

Schoenfield believes he can net a relief pitcher.

He adds that if they want to make a move for an impact starter, they have depth in the minor leagues to do so.

Chicago is in a prime position to get better and if the opportunity presents itself, they should do just that.
