Chicago Cubs Move Taillon, Two Others To Injured List

The Chicago Cubs finalized their injured list and roster moves ahead of Opening Day with the Texas Rangers.

The set their Opening Day roster for Thursday’s game with the Texas Rangers, including the finalization of the players that will start the season on the injured list.

The Cubs will start with three players on the injured list, two being pitchers. Starting pitcher Jameson Taillon, who was member of the starting rotation last season, will be on the 15-day injured list with a back strain, which is retroactive to March 25.

Taillon, who went 8-10 last season with a 4.84 ERA, suffered the injury two weeks ago. With him out, the Cubs are turning to a rotation featuring Opening Day starter Justin Steele, along with Kyle Hendricks, Jordan Wicks, Shota Imanaga and Javier Assad.

Pitcher Caleb Kilian, as expected, was moved to the 60-day injured list, retroactive to March 25, with a right shoulder strain. The teres major strain, similar to the injury Texas Rangers pitcher Max Scherzer suffered last September, is expected to keep Kilian out for the next several months.

Kilian pitched in three games with the Cubs last season, going 0-1 with a 16.88 ERA.

Infielder Patrick Wisdom is on the 10-day injured list with a back strain. Wisdom has been dealing with the back strain for more than a week.

Last year he batted .205 but hit 23 home runs and drove in 46.

With Wisdom on the injured list, the Cubs officially selected the contract of infielder Garrett Cooper from Triple-A Iowa and put him on the Opening Day roster. The 32-year-old veteran was with San Diego and Miami last season, where he batted a combined .251 and hit a career-high 17 home runs and 61 RBI.
