The Chicago Cubs got some very good news on Monday when top prospect Brennen Davis made his much-anticipated return to game action in the Arizona Complex League.

The Des Moines Register's Tommy Birch had reported on Sunday that the Cubs number one prospect according to MLB Pipeline was expected to return to game action this week, and a day later, Davis made his return, going 0-3 with a walk and three strikeouts in a 6-2 ACL Cubs victory.

The outfielder, who hadn't played since May 3 with the Iowa Cubs, had undergone back surgery that revealed a cluster of blood vessels that caused back and leg pain. The former Cubs Minor League Player of the Year had apparently been experiencing the issue since spring training, perhaps shedding some light on his poor start to the season.

Davis was initially feared to be out for the rest of the minor league season, aiming for a return in the Arizona Fall League, but progressed better than expected.

The 2021 Futures Game MVP may be positioned to return to Iowa later in the season where he was slashing .195/.286/.299, but no further news is available regarding the Cubs plan for him.
