Cubs Predicted to Have Interest in Two Remaining Stars on Free Agent Market

The Chicago Cubs are predicted to have interest in the top two remaining players on the free agency market.

The Chicago Cubs might not be done with their offseason plans just yet.

Following re-signing Cody Bellinger after Spring Training started, the front office could still be in the mix for many remaining players.

Two of the top pitchers in baseball are on the free agency market with Jordan Montgomery and Blake Snell still looking for a home.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that four new teams reached out to agent Scott Boras about his two clients.

The Cubs could be one of those teams given their need for another quality arm. After Chicago made Craig Counsell the highest-paid manager in baseball, it wouldn't be surprising to see them try to do more.

While this offseason was saved by the re-signing of Bellinger and landing Shota Imanaga, there's much more that could've been done.

That's where Snell and Montgomery come into play.

According to Christopher Kline of FanSided, he believes the Cubs are one of the four new teams checking in on Snell and Montgomery.

Kline writes that if they landed one of them, they'd instantly become the overwhelming favorites to win the National League Central.

With a weak division and the Milwaukee Brewers expected to be a different team than in years past without Counsell and Corbin Burnes, Chicago has a chance to run away with it.

On paper, this should be the best team in the division.

There are some worries about the lineup, but if they can be slightly above average offensively while adding Snell or Montgomery, the Cubs have to love their chances of getting into the playoffs.
