The Chicago Cubs have had a strange offseason. With the additions of Shota Imanaga and Hector Neris, there have been moves that will help this club in 2024.

However, the offense, as currently constructed, is much less talented than it was last season. Jeimer Candelario left in free agency, Cody Bellinger hasn't made a decision, and one of their top targets in Matt Chapman hasn't found a home.

With Spring Training set to start, the Cubs have many questions that they need to answer on that side of the baseball.

Jordan Bastian of MLB.com questioned it too, wondering if there are still any big additions coming for Chicago this offseason. Bastian writes that the biggest storyline for the Cubs isn't who arrives at Spring Training, but rather who will be coming in the future.

He notes that the team still has a need for an impact bat and links Bellinger to fill that role. Bastian adds that if they don't sign Bellinger, they could consider Chapman.

With Bellinger and Chapman being represented by agent Scott Boras, this could take much longer. Boras has never been one to take less than market value on his players and this won't be any different.

Bellinger, a former MVP, found his stride in Chicago last season. He struggled after winning the MVP for the Los Angeles Dodgers and had to take a prove-it year with the Cubs.

Chapman, best known for his elite defensive abilities, hit 17 home runs last season, the third-fewest of his career, When he's at his best offensively, he's a bat that can hit 25-plus home runs.
