Marlins Send Prospect to the Mound Against Mets in Grapefruit League Action

The Miami Marlins are continuing to work their way closer to Opening Day

The Miami Marlins want some more time.

With Opening Day just over a week away, they're trying to get several members of their rotation healthy. In the meantime, there's a prospect on the bump today for Miami, as they wait for word on Eury Pérez and his ailing elbow.

2021 8th-rounder Patrick Monteverde gets the start in Grapefruit League action as the Marlins welcome the divisional rival New York Mets into Jupiter's Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.

Here's how the Marlins will configure the defense behind Monteverde:

2B Vidal Bruján
CF Nick Gordon
RF Jesús Sánchez
SS Jon Berti
LF Avasail García
DH Dane Myers
C Christian Bethancourt
1B Trey Mancini
3B Jonah Bride

Monteverde is making his third appearance (1st start) of spring training, with a 0.00 ERA and five strikeouts to one walk in his previous two appearances.

Here's how the Mets are lining up on the road:

LF Brandon Nimmo
CF Tyrone Taylor
RF David Stewart
DH Luke Voit
C Omar Narváez
1B Ji Man Choi
SS Jose Iglesias
3B Joey Wendle
2B Zack Short

Starting for the Mets is prospect Christian Scott. The 2022 5th-rounder out of Florida has pitched one inning in major league spring training so far this March, walking one, striking out one, and allowing one run on one hit.
