Three Miami Marlins Pitchers Ranked In MLB's Top 50

The Athletic is high on some of the Miami Marlins arms.

The Miami Marlins have done a great job acquiring and developing solid pitching.

While the rotation is battling some injuries, when healthy, the Marlins have a stable of arms that can get them to the postseason like we saw a season ago.

The Athletic MLB Staff ranked the top 50 pitchers in the MLB and the Miami Marlins had three of their hurlers named to the list. Braxton Garrett was ranked at number 50.  Jesús Luzardo was tied at 28 with Bobby Miller of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Eury Pérez is the highest Marlin on the list at number 15.

One scout told The Athletic, “Will be shocked if he doesn’t win two or three Cy Youngs before he’s 30."

The 20-year-old pitcher went 5-6 in 2023. He recorded a 3.15 ERA and pitched 91.1 innings.

"Pérez dominated in a limited role last season," the article on The Athletic reads. "The Marlins took pains to protect him, and for good reason. He won’t turn 21 until April. But you can only protect pitchers so much. Earlier this month, Pérez broke the nail of his right middle finger. The busted cuticle was only a prelude. He also reported soreness in his elbow, which merited evaluation that was still ongoing as this story published."

Results of Pérez's imaging are not yet available, and all indications are he'll begin the season on the 15-Day IL.

The article by The Athletic does highlight that Miami has done a solid job at bringing up pitching to the MLB level over the past few seasons but has had a tough time keeping the arms healthy, pointing out the injuries to Sixto Sánchez, Trevor Rogers, and Sandy Alcantara.
