Former Mets Slugger Blasts Club After Disastrous 2023 Season

One former member of the Mets certainly is speaking up about the club

The New York Mets have some serious work to do.

New York obviously needs to improve the roster, but it sounds like the Mets need to make other changes, as well. The Mets entered the 2023 season with extremely high expectations, but couldn't live up to them and won just 75 games. It's unclear exactly what went wrong with the club, but former Mets slugger and current Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Tommy Pham didn't hold back when talking about the team, according to USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale.

"Diamondbacks outfielder Tommy Pham says the New York Mets should be embarrassed for missing the playoffs with their collection of talent," Nightengale said.

“That team is more talented than this team," Pham said. “Let’s be honest here. But what makes this team different is everyone is still at this level trying to reach their max potential. The drive wasn’t there (with the Mets) That drive is here. That’s what separates this team from most teams. You have guys that are still trying to get better every day. You have teammates trying to help you out. And that’s dangerous.”

This isn't the first time Pham has ripped the Mets since leaving the organization. It sounds like there was much more going on behind the scenes that could have led to the organization's struggles this season.

New York already has made changes by hiring president of baseball operations David Stearns. Plus, former manager Buck Showalter and former general manager Billy Eppler are no longer with the club. The Mets will be busy this offseason and it sounds like they need to be.
