Former Mets Infielder Signs Deal With NL East Rival

The New York Mets will see their former infielder, Luis Guillorme, plenty next season after he signed with Atlanta.

The New York Mets may see Luis Guillorme next season after all as the life-long Met signed a one-year deal with the Atlanta Braves, the team announced on Friday.

Guillorme signed a one-year deal worth $1.1 million. The Mets’ non-tendered him in November to avoid a final arbitration season with the veteran. He was one of 11 players the Mets non-tendered in order to avoid arbitration.

Because Guillorme is out of options, he’ll either have to make the Braves’ roster or he’ll be waived and made available to other teams.

With the Mets last season he played in 54 games and slashed .224/.288/.327/.615 with one home run and nine RBI. His value with the Mets was wrapped up in his glove.

He started the season at Triple-A Syracuse and was called up on May 17. He spent more than a month on the injured list in July and August with a right calf strain. After a rehab assignment at Double-A Binghamton, he returned to the Mets on Sept. 18 for the final weeks of the season.

The Venezuela native moved to the U.S. and went to high school in Florida, where he ultimately became the Mets’ 10th round of the 2013 MLB draft.

He joined the Mets’ 40-man roster after the 2017 season to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft and he made his MLB debut in 2018 when he was called up on May 9.

In six MLB seasons he’s played in 335 games and slashed .261/.344/.333/.677 with five home runs and 48 RBI. His most productive season was in 2022, where he played in 102 games with a batting average of .273 with two home runs and 17 RBI.
