New York Mets Starter Begins Injury Rehab at St. Lucie

The New York Mets could use some help in their starting rotation and this starter is beginning his road back from a hamstring injury.

The New York Mets have a few starters on the injured list and one is starting to work his way back into game shape after missing the start of the season.

Max Kranick, who went on the 15-day injured list with a left hamstring strain to start the season, threw his first rehab assignment start with Class A St. Lucie on Sunday.

Kranick threw 22 pitches in the start, going 0.2 innings. He gave up two hits, a walk and struck out one before he departed.

The plan, per MLB.com, is for Kranick to continue to ramp up in an attempt to be ready to help the Mets, if needed, by the end of April. Kranick has been out since suffering a Grade 2 hamstring injury before his first spring training start.

The Mets also have the ability to option Kranick to the minors if there is no space for him in the rotation.

The Mets are without Tylor Megill and Kodai Senga, the latter of which is not expected to be ready until at least May.

Kranick spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he went 2-3 with a 6.28 ERA in 11 games (nine starts). The Pirates designated Kranick for assignment in January and the Mets picked up him a week later.

Another Mets pitcher, reliever Sean Reid-Foley, is still recovering from a right shoulder impingement, which required a cortisone injection and rest last week. the Mets are hopeful he can re-join the bullpen by the middle of April.

The Mets are hitting the road this week as they start a four-game series with the Atlanta Braves on Monday.
