Surprise AL Team Deemed Landing Spot for Mets Power-Hitting Slugger

A surprise American League team has been deemed a landing spot for a New York Mets home run hitter.

The New York Mets look to win another series on Sunday when they take on the Kansas City Royals. It was a slow start for the Mets, but one that was expected after an offseason filled with question marks.

Next offseason won't be any different.

Expectations for owner Steve Cohen will be high next offseason, one that should see him spend just as much as he did in 2023. His first order of business, however, should be keeping one of his players around.

Pete Alonso hits free agency at the end of the season if New York can't come to an agreement with him before then. From the looks of things, Alonso will have a chance to test free agency, almost certainly making him the hottest hitter on the market.

If there's a scenario where the Mets understand they won't extend Alonso, trading him at the deadline this year would be the wise thing to do. Getting assets back for the three-time All-Star is a must if he doesn't plan on returning.

Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report listed 10 teams that have needs to fill at the trade deadline. Of the 10 teams, Rymer listed the Detroit Tigers, who he believes need a power hitter.

He listed four options, which included Alonso.

If the Tigers are looking for a power bat, there might not be a better option in all of baseball. Alonso, still only 29 years old, has hit at least 37 home runs in every full season he's played.

Losing Alonso would be a massive blow to the franchise and one Cohen shouldn't even risk happening.
