Baltimore Orioles All-Star Seeking Long-Term Extension

After winning his arbitration case, a Baltimore Orioles All-Star has his sights set on an even bigger contract.

Players don't win their arbitration cases too often, and even if they do, it usually comes at a cost as negotiations can get ugly and cause friction between the team and player.

No wonder so many guys leave in free agency when they get the chance.

Austin Hays doesn't feel that way, however, after winning his arbitration case with the Baltimore Orioles.

In fact, it's the opposite -- Hays wants to stay.

According to his agent, Hays is apparently seeking a long-term extension to remain with the Orioles for the foreseeable future.

The All-Star outfielder will earn a $6.3 million salary for 2024 after winning his arbitration case, nearly doubling his 2023 salary of $3.2 million. Hays could receive another significant pay bump next winter in his final year before free agency.

Hays reportedly has no interest in testing the open market, at least not yet.

He wants to stay in Baltimore long-term, especially after feeling that he was treated fairly during the arbitration process.

And frankly, who could blame him?

The Orioles are on the cusp of a dynasty.

Why would anyone in their right mind want to go elsewhere?

Hays has paid his dues with Baltimore since debuting in 2017, surviving several lean years before being rewarded with recent success. He's seen the Orioles grow over the past few years and has grown along with them, establishing himself as a solid everyday outfielder.

If Hays wants to win a championship, Baltimore is one of the best places to be.

He got his money, but he has his eye on bigger and better things: a larger contract and a ring.
