The Baltimore Orioles and Major League baseball remembered the impact of Larry Lucchino, who passed away at the age of 78 on Tuesday.

Lucchino, who was born in Pittsburgh, spent part of his adult life as the president of three different MLB teams, including the Orioles from 1988-93.

Lucchino also ran the San Diego Padres from 1995-01 and the Boston Red Sox from 2002-15.

Upon learning of Lucchino’s passing, the Baltimore Orioles released a statement remembering the former executive.

“We are heartbroken over the news of the passing of former Orioles president and CEO, Larry Lucchino. A pioneer in the sport, we will forever be grateful for his impact on our organization, highlighted by the construction of Oriole Park at Camden Yards, The Ballpark That Forever Changed Baseball.”

“We join our entire baseball family in mourning this loss and extend our thoughts and prayers to his loved ones and many friends throughout the game.”

Lucchino’s entrance into sports was with the the Washington, D.C., law firm of Williams & Connolly, founder by litigator Edward Bennett Williams, who had ownership interest in the Orioles.

Lucchino did help shepherd the construction of the Orioles’ home, but he also performed the same task for the Padres, which opened in 2004, two years after he left to take over the Red Sox.

When he joined the Red Sox, he oversaw a $300 million renovation of Fenway Park, which included the installation of the “Monster Seats,” which sit on the top of the Green Monster in left field.

Lucchino is credited with being part of four World Series champions in his bio, including the 1983 Orioles. He began working for the O’s in 1979.

Lucchino also has three World Series rings with the Boston Red Sox, a Super Bowl ring from his time working with Washington in the 1980s and is a member of both the Boston Red Sox and San Diego Padres Hall of Fame.
