Orioles Reliever Latest Player To Win Arbitration Case

Baltimore Orioles reliever Jacob Webb won his salary arbitration hearing on the same day that outfielder Austin Hays won his.

The Baltimore Orioles reportedly lost another arbitration hearing on Tuesday, as pitcher Jacob Webb won his hearing, per MLB.com.

Webb’s victory came the same day it was reported that outfielder Austin Hays won his hearing. Hays will get $6.3 million in 2024 instead of the $5.85 million the Orioles offered.

Webb’s win came with a $1 million paycheck for next season. Webb is in his first year of arbitration eligibility and is not a free agent until 2027.

Webb split his time between the Los Angeles Angels and the Orioles last season, joining the O’s on Aug. 7 when the team claimed him off waivers.

With the Angels he went 1-1 with a 3.98 ERA in 29 appearances, all in relief, along with a save in 31.1 innings. With the O’s he made 25 appearances without a decision and struck out 23 in 22 innings as he helped Baltimore clinch the American League East Division title.

He spent all of 2022 in the minor leagues, as he was designated for assignment by Atlanta, picked up by Arizona and then released, followed by going back to Atlanta.

He spent his entire pro career with the Braves up until 2022, as he was the organization’s 18th round of the 2014 MLB Draft out of NAIA Tabor College.

He broke in with Atlanta as a reliever in 2019 and stayed with the Braves for three seasons, including their 2021 World Series season. That year he went 5-4 with a 4.19 ERA in 34 games and saved one game in 34.1 innings. He struck out 33 and walked 14.
