Baltimore Orioles Reportedly 'Could Go Big' in Free Agency This Winter

The Baltimore Orioles could be one of the major players in MLB free agency this winter according to reports.

The Baltimore Orioles have some work to do if they hope to replicate their 2023 MLB season success in which they won 101 games.

It was a shocking entrance back to relevance as they absolutely shattered the panes of their window of contention. At the same time, the New York Yankees underperformed, the Boston Red Sox posed little threat as a .500 team and the Toronto Blue Jays lost steam.

That may not be the case in 2024 as the majority of the American League East will likely not sit idly by this winter.

According to MLB.com, the Orioles figure to be one of the teams in which this winter they go for it "big."

The franchise has an incredibly talented, young core that is now full of All-Stars. Their rotation, especially the top of the rotation in Grayson Rodriguez and Kyle Bradish are both budding superstars.

But as the article points out, Jack Flaherty and Kyle Gibson are no longer with the team. The latter was especially important in providing meaningful innings over a long 162 game season.

That means plenty of money may have to be spent on filling out the rotation. The names of Lucas Giolito, a big time pitcher looking for a bounce back year, and Texas Rangers World Series hero Andrew Heaney have all been connected to Baltimore this winter.

Additionally, we have spoken about the prospect of trading for an ace-type pitcher like Shane Bieber from the Cleveland Guardians in a blockbuster trade.

Regardless of how things shakeout, the Orioles will have to procure meaningful additions to their rotation ahead of the highly-anticipated 2024 MLB season.
