After being the biggest surprise in the 2023 MLB season, the Baltimore Orioles have a major offseason coming up. This offseason can play a major part in the Orioles winning a World Series in the coming years.

For Baltimore, pitching is the biggest concern for them heading into 2024. Grayson Rodriguez and other young arms showed promise at times, but they lacked an ace. An ace is a must for the Orioles and there are a few on the market.

Thomas Harrigan of MLB.com views them as the best fit to land Chicago White Sox star Dylan Cease.

"A lot went right for the Orioles during a 101-win season no one saw coming in 2023, including the emergence of Bradish and Rodriguez as a pair of rotation anchors around which to build. However, Baltimore didn’t add a frontline starter last offseason or at the Trade Deadline, and the club’s inactivity backfired when its rotation came up small in its American League Division Series sweep at the hands of the Rangers... The Orioles need to capitalize on the opportunity in front of them right now. The best way to do that? Cashing in some of their prospects to acquire Cease, who would give the O’s a potential ace for not one but two seasons as their nucleus of Adley Rutschman, Gunnar Henderson, Jackson Holliday (MLB Pipeline’s No. 1 overall prospect) and Rodriguez continues to mature."

For Baltimore, going after Cease seems like a sure thing. The 27-year-old fits the timeline and could become a huge piece in this young core.
