The Baltimore Orioles pulled off arguably the biggest trade of the offseason on Thursday night as they landed Milwaukee Brewers ace Corbin Burnes. In return, the Brewers received DL Hall, Joey Ortiz, and a 2024 competitive balance round A pick.

Burnes has just one year left on his contract, so this could be a rental. However, the hope is Burnes helps them during this upcoming season and gives them a shot to win the World Series while they work on signing him to a longer deal.

Hall and Ortiz are two of the better prospects in the Orioles system, Baltimore didn't move a top-five prospect in this deal to get back the former NL Cy Young winner.

If they wanted to, a package for another player could be in the works. For now, the front office has done its part and has found the ace that the team desperately needed.

Sportsbooks took immediate notice of the move, indicating how big of a move this truly was.

According to Ben Verlander, the Orioles' odds have drastically changed at FanDuel Sportsbook:

  • World Series: +1900 to +1200
  • Pennant: +900 to +550
  • Division Champions: +350 to +250
  • Win Total: 88.5 to 91.5

These aren't small movements in Baltimore's favorites. In fact, these are drastic changes and shows the type of move that the front office made on Thursday night.

In the 2023 season, Burnes had a down year for his standards. He posted a 3.39 ERA and 1.07 WHIP, but when he's at his best, he's a legitimate Cy Young candidate.

He's proven that in four straight seasons as he won the award in 2021 and finished in the top-eight during the three other seasons.
