Orioles Young Stars Crash MLB's Top 10 Right Now List

Two of the Baltimore Orioles' top young stars joined an outfielder and a new addition on Top 10 positional lists entering 2024.

The Baltimore Orioles don’t just have young stars. They have young stars that are among the best players in baseball.

The recently-concluded MLB.com and MLB Network’s Top 10 Right Now series saw the two sites rank the Top 10 players at every position in baseball.

The Orioles came up with four players on the list, two of which are still relatively early in their careers. Plus, one of them just joined the Orioles this week.

Behind the plate, third-year catcher Adley Rutschman was No. 1 at the position, unseating Philadelphia’s J.T Realmuto, who had been No. 1 each of the last three seasons.

Rutschman was an All-Star and Silver Slugger winner in 2023 after finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting in 2022. He’s finished in the Top 12 of AL Most Valuable Player voting in each of his first two seasons.

The reigning AL Rookie of the Year, Gunnar Henderson, was ranked sixth at third base. Atlanta’s Austin Riley was ranked first, followed by Cleveland’s José Ramírez and San Diego’s Manny Machado.

Along with winning the Rookie of the Year award, he claimed a Silver Slugger and finished eighth in AL MVP voting.

The new addition was pitcher Corbin Burnes, who was ranked No. 2 at starting pitcher before he was dealt to Baltimore. The only pitcher ranked ahead of him was reigning AL Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole of the New York Yankees.

The final Orioles player on a Top 10 list was Cedric Mullins, who was ranked No. 8 after being ranked No. 7 last year. Even though the Orioles have at least two MLB-ready outfielders at Triple-A, Mullins is good enough to hold both of them off. The position is led by New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge.

The rankings were based on data collected by the MLB Network research team. The rankings were based on past player performance, a number of offensive and defensive metrics, both advanced data and traditional numbers.
