Padres' Michael King Opens Up About Incredible Start vs Giants

The San Diego Padres season is off to a mediocre start, but the team knows they have a long way to go. They entered the year determined to have a much better year than they did last season, even if the pitching staff looked a little different.

One of the Padres' promising starters is Michael King, who the team received in their offseason trade with the New York Yankees for star outfielder Juan Soto. King has already made a few starts for San Diego but had his career-best performance against the San Francisco Giants on Saturday.

King went seven innings without giving up any runs. He allowed four hits and struck out four batters as well. He was dominant for the Padres in their win over the Giants and spoke about his performance after the fact.

“I felt like I was very efficient, in the zone, getting soft contact early in the count, which is obviously a huge thing as a starter,” he said. “But I didn’t feel like I had electric stuff today. And I know I felt that in the past. So hopefully I can have a seven-plus shutout with some more electric stuff.”

If King can keep up these types of outings, the Padres will be very difficult to deal with. Alongside Dylan Cease, Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove, King gives them a very strong rotation. San Diego has been thrilled with King so far, so the hope is that he can keep it up as the year goes on.
