Former Padres Catcher Joins NL Central Squad on Minor League Deal

On the road again.

It appears that former San Diego Padres catcher Jorge Alfaro is on the move yet again.

Per Robert Murray of FanSided, Alfaro has signed a minor league deal with the Chicago Cubs but will have the opportunity to make the MLB roster as he received an invite to spring training this year.

Alfaro played just one year with the Padres in 2022 but it was a year that fans will never forget as the team made it to its first NLCS since 1998 after eliminating the division rival Los Angeles Dodgers.

That season, Alfaro hit .246 with 40 RBIs and seven home runs.

After leaving the Padres that offseason, Alfaro spent time back and forth between playing for the Boston Red Sox and the Colorado Rockies. He would end up playing for the Rockies for about just one month until he was outrighted by the organization. He would then begin his second stint with the Red Sox a few days later but would end up being released by Boston on August 5th.

As an international prospect, Alfaro was considered a top 100 prospect after being signed by the Texas Rangers in 2013. Unfortunately, he has never been able to put it together and has primarily served as a backup catcher.

After signing with the Cubs, it will be Alfaro's sixth team during his eight-year career.
