Former Padres Outfielder Drawing Interest From NL West Rival in Free Agency

Will the Padres see more of their former outfielder this season?

The San Diego Padres are one of many teams who have yet to make a splash signing this offseason.

Although the Friars aren't making moves, other teams are making moves on their former players. One of their former players, outfielder Tommy Pham, is being targeted by their division rivals, the Arizona Diamondbacks.

MLB.com's Mark Feinsand was among the first to report.

Pham spent the last couple of months of the 2023 season with the Diamondbacks. He was traded from the New York Mets to Arizona at last year's MLB trade deadline. He spent time as a designated hitter, left fielder, and right fielder. In 50 games, he slashed .241/.304/.415 with a .719 OPS in 195 at-bats.

Prior to hopping from team to team in the last two seasons, he spent two years with the Friars from 2020 to 2021. As a Friar, he slashed .226/.335/.370 with a .705 OPS. His time in San Diego was quite odd, as he got into some off-the-field issues and eventually left after the 2021 season via free agency.

Since then, Pham has been quite formidable in the squads he's participated in. Now, there's a possibility he could stay in the NL West and continue to help the reigning National League champs.
