Ha-Seong Kim Dealing With Back Spasms, Out of Padres Lineup

Kim out for the Padres.

San Diego Padres shortstop Ha-Seong Kim is out of the Padres lineup against the Cincinnati Reds Wednesday as he has recently been dealing with back spasms.

Kim initially experienced the spasms during drills on Tuesday morning, according to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union Tribune. Though Kim was virtually free of pain from the spasms by Tuesday night, he did not partake in drills on Wednesday out of precautionary measures. The Padres now expect Kim to play again on Friday night, when they face the San Francisco Giants, per Acee.

Kim was last in the Padres lineup on Monday, when the Padres defeated the Chicago Cubs, 2-1. Kim recorded one hit and one run in three at-bats. Overall this spring, Kim has a .400 batting average through 15 at-bats. Kim has six hits, one home run and thre RBIs while stealing two bases.

As a strong batter and Gold Glove winner for the Padres, Kim is a key piece for San Diego as he enters his fourth season with the team. Even though he was the subject of trade rumors during the offseason, Kim has been one of the team's better players as of late. Keeping Kim healthy is vital for the team, so the precautionary measures are a smart move.

He's going to be the team's everyday shortstop in 2024.
