Despite reports recently that talks had stalled, it seems that being at the Winter Meetings has re-sparked discussion between the New York Yankees and San Diego Padres on star outfielder Juan Soto. The two teams began talking once again, and it now seems like a trade could go down very soon.

MLB insider Jon Morosi of MLB.com is reporting that a trade of Soto to New York has gained momentum.

Insider Jack Curry of the YES Network also reported that talks have intensified and that a trade between the sides is likely.

The Yankees have long been thought to be the landing spot for Soto, and we may be heading toward the finish line here. The Padres front office's asking price has been very high, but New York seems determined to get a deal done.

There had been talk about the Toronto Blue Jays being a serious contender for Soto, but the Yankees are trying their best to make sure that doesn't happen. New York has wanted to make a big splash this offseason after missing out on the postseason last year, and this would be a tidal wave for them.

The Padres would get a very nice haul in return for Soto, giving them multiple assets to use going forward. Trading away Soto will sting, but it's a necessary loss with how the team is looking to do business this winter.

We could be seeing one of the bigger baseball trades in recent memory go down very soon, so stay alert Padres fans.
