Former San Diego Padres first baseman Luke Voit is moving toward a minor-league deal with the New York Mets. The New York Post's Joel Sherman and Andy Martino of SNY were the ones to confirm the deal between the two sides.

Voit was traded to the Padres in 2022 in exchange for Justin Lange. He played 82 games with San Diego, hitting .225 with 13 home runs and 38 runs batted in.

Later that season, he was moved to the Washington Nationals in the deal that sent former Padres star Juan Soto to San Diego. Voit wasn't originally a part of the Soto deal with Washington, but first baseman Eric Hosmer invoked his no-trade clause, causing San Diego to send Voit out instead.

He opted for free agency at the end of the 2022 season. Voit spent last season with the Milwaukee Brewers, appearing in 22 games. He hit .221 with zero home runs and only four runs batted in.

The veteran will be looking to reclaim his early success with the Mets this coming season. He will have an invite to Spring Training, where he can earn a spot on the roster if he performs well.

Voit has a career batting average of .253 with 95 home runs and 276 runs batted in.
