Mariners at Padres: Lineups, How to Watch, Predictions, and More

Will the Padres defeat the Mariners?

The San Diego Padres face the Seattle Mariners on March 3. For the Padres, Yu Darvish will get the pitching start.

Darvish is one of the Padres' best pitchers, and so far through the Cactus League in 2024, he has yet to give up a run. He's pitched two innings and struck out three batters while allowing two hits.

Against the Mariners, Darvish will face a team with the fifth-best batting average through Spring Training so far. Meanwhile, the Padres batting lineup will face the Mariners ace, Luis Castillo.

More

Fernando Tatis Jr. returns to the top of the Padres' batting lineup. The play of Tatis this season is viewed as crucial for how successful the Padres season is in 2024. Tatis was inconsistent as a batter during the 2023 campaign and faced injuries. If Tatis' play can return to the All-Star level he's capable of, it would be significant for San Diego.

So far through the Cactus League games, Tatis Jr. has seen nine at-bats in five game appearances. Tatis has yet to record a hit or an out.

He instead has walked twice and was struck out three times. The Padres would like to see him gain some more momentum here, against a Mariners team that has allowed a ton of runs over their past five games.

The Mariners rank third-last in the MLB with a 6.65 ERA. The team has given up the second-most runs with 63 through Spring Training. This game provides a great opportunity for Tatis to get rolling as a hitter heading into 2024.
