New Details Emerge in Padres, Yankees Juan Soto Trade Rumors

Are the Yankees not interested anymore?

The move the San Diego Padres made in the summer of 2022 by acquiring superstar lefty slugger Juan Soto was viewed as monumental. He was sure to take the Padres to the next level and compete for years to come along with their other superstar players.

However, almost a year and a half later, things have yet to materialize that way for the Friars. A disappointing 2023 season made the front office view how to handle the team going forward, which involves potentially moving off of Soto.

The 25-year-old will garner a ton of attention, and rightfully so; the race will be intense, and it will be one worth watching; however, it may not include the team with the most World Series titles, the New York Yankees.

According to NY Post columnist and MLB insider Jon Heyman, the two sides have yet to speak on a Juan Soto trade.

While the Yankees like Padres superstar Juan Soto, they have yet to speak to San Diego about him this winter (they did talk at the deadline).

The Yankees are viewed by many as the team to trade for the Yankees, so this news is a bit puzzling. Another recent report added that the two clubs had been in contact about a trade but nothing since the 2023 trade deadline, as Heyman mentioned.

The Padres need to get rid of $50 million off their books, and trading Soto would go a long way in helping that cause. Now, it is early in the offseason, so maybe they're waiting until the official end of the baseball season.

Who knows, but it will be a surprise if Soto is donning a brown and gold jersey by the start of the 2024 season. We'll see if the Yankees make a move or if another team emerges as the new favorite.
