One Time Padres Pitcher Arrested in Connection to 2021 Murder

An arrest for a 2021 murder was finally made a little more than two years after a small town in California was rocked.

The ugly side of the real world and pro sports unfortunately crossed over on Friday as a bombshell report dropped involving one time San Diego Padres pitcher Danny Serafini.

Serafini, 49, was arrested in Nevada on Friday in connection to a 2021 murder of his father-in-law and attempted murder of his mother-in-law in Lake Tahoe, Calif. According to reports, the ex-MLB pitcher entered the home where the murder took place as the couple was away and waited for hours for their return. From there, Serafini reportedly fired one shot at the man and two at the woman.

While the woman survived the attack, she tragically took her own life 10 months later, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Surveillance video led to the arrest of Serafini and his accomplice Samantha Scott.

“Today, justice was served,” Placer County Sheriff Wayne Woo said in a statement. “The apprehension of those responsible for the tragic events that unfolded in Homewood, North Lake Tahoe in 2021 stands as a testament to the unwavering dedication of our detectives, law enforcement partners, and the persistence of our pursuit of truth.

Serafini pitched in parts of 7 seasons at the big league level, including a stint with the Padres in the year 2000. His last MLB action came with the Rockies in 2007 where he was suspended for PED use. He bounced around the Mexican and Independent leagues for the better part of a decade after his MLB career.

Serafini is being held on a no-bail warrant in Winnemucca, Nevada.
