If you're looking to cast some blame for Friday's loss to the Dodgers, don't leave out home plate umpire Dan Iassogna. The veteran balls and strikes caller didn't have a terrible game overall. But the moments where he was terrible proved to be massively costly for the Padres.

As Padres radio host Sammy Levitt noted on Twitter, one missed strike three call from Robert Suarez to Chris Taylor in the 8th inning was the biggest blown call of them all.

At the moment of that pitch, the game was tied 3-3 and the bases were full of Dodgers but with 2 outs. Suarez absolutely painted a 1-2 fastball up in the zone that should have punched Taylor out and send the game to the bottom of the 8th. Instead, Taylor walked on 7 pitches and the floodgates opened for LA.

That forced in a run and chased Suarez. Tom Cosgrove walked the next batter to force in a run then Amed Rosario hit a 2 run double to put the Dodgers up 7-3. They added three more in the 9th and that was all she wrote.

It wasted a gem from Yu Darvish who tossed 7 exceptional innings to come away with the no decision.

“It’s another one of those games that we’ve been through this year that’s been really frustrating,” manager Bob Melvin said. “We’re right on the verge of getting somewhere we wanted to go; .500 would have been great today and (to) beat these guys in the first game. Next thing you know they got 10 runs on the board. So another tough gut punch for us.”
