Reigning National League Cy Young winner and Padres free agent Blake Snell remains a free agent in the middle of March. But, for the first time this offseason, there are reports that make it sound like he could finally find a team who's willing to pay him what he's looking for.

On Friday, Ken Rosenthal and Chandler Rome of The Athletic reported the Houston Astros are "engaged in a serious pursuit" of Snell, according to their sources.

They also added that Snell is "believed to be seeking the same type of contract recently signed by two other Scott Boras clients, Cody Bellinger and Matt Chapman — a three-year deal with two opt outs."

The Astros have not really been mentioned among the suitors until Friday, but with question marks in their rotation, they seem to be making a late push.

The Padres were never really among the teams pursuing Snell due to his cost, as the Friars wanted to shed salary this offseason.

Any small chance of the Padres bringing back Snell was squashed on Wednesday, when the team traded for Dylan Cease.

With Cease now out of the American League, it seems like there's a chance Snell heads back to the AL, where he spent the first five years of his career.
