Padres Injury News: LHP Tim Hill Progressing, Melvin Lays Out Next Steps

A bullpen weapon is on the mend for San Diego.

As the Padres battle for their postseason lives, a bit of bullpen help is inching closer to returning.

Over the weekend, manager Bob Melvin shared an update on LHP Tim Hill who was sidelined with a finger issue that had been bugging him in recent weeks. The reliever is on the mend and should be progressing toward throwing a bullpen session this week.

According to MLB.com's AJ Cassavell, "there could be more than one session depending on how Hill responds."

The club placed Hill on the 15-day IL on August 2nd and is expecting his stay there for the minimum 15 day stint.

Hill has a higher than usual 4.22 ERA in 45 games this season and a 6.00 ERA over his last 7 outings while the finger had been acting up. Without Hill, the Padre bullpen has struggled in August as the club has gone 4-6 to open the month.

The reliever has spent the last four seasons with the Padres, posting a 3.85 ERA over 201 games while being one of the more heavily used arms out of the bullpen for Bob Melvin and Jayce Tingler before him.
