Padres News: Blake Snell Reportedly Isn't Likely to Join New York This Offseason

Snell continues to hold out for a deal he deems worthy of his production.

Former San Diego Padres ace Blake Snell is still a free agent as the calendar shifts to February. The reigning National League Cy Young award winner has reportedly been searching for a massive contract on the open market, but to this date, he hasn't received anything close.

Snell is looking to receive a deal that he deems worthy of his on-field performance, but teams are hesitant. His age and potential decline are factors for organizations, all of which could see this free agency continue to play out.

The teams most heavily linked with Snell have been the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angels and even New York Mets. Each of these could offer different situations for Snell, but he remains hopeful that he will find a deal he prefers.

According to The New York Post's Jon Heyman, it appears Snell won't be heading to New York after all. The Mets checked in on the ace but have decided to pursue other means to build out their roster.

"And Snell, while still searching for a job, isn’t likely to join the Mets. While they checked in on him (they check in on everyone), new baseball president David Stearns seems done completing a solid and cost-efficient rotation."

Per Jon Heyman of The New York Post

After all is said and done, Snell will likely have to give in somewhere. With pitchers and catchers reporting soon, he may have to take a lesser deal.

But if he holds his ground, this could play out well into spring training. Maybe he ends up returning to the Padres if he can't find a better deal, even if it seems unlikely at this point.

Snell may be the best pitcher available in free agency, but there are concerns. He continues to search for the deal he wants, and hopefully, he can find what he is looking for.
