Even though the San Diego Padres have been pretty atrocious to watch lately and a number of factors have kept them from reaching any of their potential just yet, it doesn't look like the blame is on the management just yet.

When Bob Melvin was brought in to lead the San Diego Padres back in 2021, he already had 18 years of experience under his belt as he was manager for the Seattle Mariners, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Oakland Athletics. The Friars looked much different back then but Melvin finds him dealing with many of the same problems.

Lackluster offense, nonexistent cohesion, and injuries have all highlighted what has been wrong with San Diego this season and Melvin has had to experiment with a number of different lineups in the process. He's been on edge lately and even made history with a recent ejection.

The Front Office Stands Behind Him

Padres' GM A.J. Preller is no stranger when it comes to having to make tough decisions for his associates. He has fired two managers in the past four years but it looks like he believes in what Melvin brings to the table.

Preller has been active in the media as of late and has been honest about some trades and big changes potentially becoming inevitable for the franchise.

However it's looking those changes will not include Melvin.

“He’s been managing a long time,” Preller said. “I have a lot of faith in him.”

Obviously, Preller did not go out of his way to defend his name but he said what needed to be said. The Friars are already in a hole against the Boston Red Sox right now and the focus should be to take care of business there above all else.
