The Padres had one of those add injury to insult days in Philly on Saturday, or however the saying goes. They lost a day/night doubleheader to the Phillies by a combined score of 15-8 and lost right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr late in game two after he twisted his ankle in an awkward play near the wall.

Thankfully, he shared a positive update after the game while describing what happened in the moment.

“I was thinking I was probably going for the jump,” Tatis said. “But I read the ball, and it was way too high on the wall. I decided to stop it, and just the dirt, it was too loose and my ankle flipped.”

Tatis exited a few innings after the play and his ability to stay in the game that long has him hopeful he won't be out for long.

“Let’s see how I wake up tomorrow,” he said. “But I feel like nothing major. ... I’ll be ready soon.”

Padres manager Bob Melvin said the right fielder is day to day, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him get the early start off against the Phillies for the series finale this morning.

After the two loss day, the Padres enter play on Sunday 44-49.

“Terrible day, terrible day,” Tatis added. “We couldn’t pull it off today. Just flush it and try to come back strong. I mean, Friday it was a great day for us, and they looked like they just bounced back.”

Update

Tatis will not be in the starting lineup but will be available off the bench.
