The San Diego Padres probably didn't sleep the best after their Wednesday night loss to the San Francisco Giants that now has them sitting at a 35-39 record and a three-game losing streak. Their previous two defeats at Oracle Park saw their bullpen fall apart late but their most recent loss came from the results of lack of RISP once again and a very, very questionable overturned call.

Starting off with the numbers here, Yu Darvish took the mound for seven innings and allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out six of the Giants' batters. On the other side of things, the Friars garnered eight hits and two runs in their 4-2 defeat. They were ice-cold through the first seven innings and a Trent Grisham single at the top inning here paved way for Ha-Seong Kim to get their first run of the night.

However, the Giants had remained scoreless until the fifth inning as well and this is where they made their run. Luis Matos was able to get in their first run thanks to a sacrifice fly from Brandon Crawford.

Fernando Tatis Jr. was then able to give us what we thought was another classic play in the outfield as he snagged a grounder single from Joc Pederson and threw a bomb just on time to Gary Sanchez and he was able to tag out a sprinting Blake Sabol who had his eyes on home plate.

Then this is where the chaos occurred. Officials took some time to review the play after SF's manager Gabe Kapler argued that Sanchez was blocking the base path as he waited for Tatis to send the ball to him.

Taking a look at the tape... he does stand in the way of the plate before Sabol gets close but the MLB allows this to happen as long as the runner was clearly beaten by the throw and I think that anybody who takes a look at the play a couple of times can see that Sanchez caught the ball well before Sabol could realistically score.

Padres' skipper Bob Melvin claimed up the all-time ejections list once again as he argued his own side and got a little too agitated for the umpire's liking but following SD's loss, he made his feelings very clear... referring to the play as one of the worst he's seen this year.

“It’s an awful call,” said Melvin. “And it had an impact on the game.”

Tatis was not happy either as he was all smiles after he made another huge play to keep his team within reach and he believes that nothing was the same after that.

“It flipped the entire energy of the game,” Tatis said afterward. “It was another dagger to us.”

However, the Padres have had their backs against the wall a number of times already in 2023. Let's see if they can bring home at least one victory.
