The San Diego Padres entered their Sunday outing against the Washington Nationals looking to close out the series and shake off any rust from the night before that saw them connect on just four runs while going scoreless in a 2-0 loss.

Juan Soto, beyond anybody else, was looking forward to this match as it is his former team and he's been looking to establish himself as the unquestioned top slugger on the Friars. However, in the second inning, he made an amazing catch in left field and avoided a serious injury in the process.

Soto was tracking down a fly ball that went deep into left field and was running towards the back wall of Petco Park. Had he taken his eye off the ball for just one second, it likely would've missed his glove so he snagged and then turned. However, he then realized there was no space between him and the ball and made a direct collision with it.

Have a look for yourself!

Soto is a superstar and in top-performing shape right now so he probably won't feel anything right now due to adrenaline but the soreness will definitely kick in later. The Padres' medical staff immediately examined him after the play and it was assessed that he was okay to continue playing.

Sometimes when you are as elite as Soto, you have to put your body on the line to make big plays. He provided a prime example of this right here.

Soto has batted .600 in the past two games against the Nationals to go with a homer and three RBI's.
