Padres News: Manny Machado's Brother-In-Law Criticizes ESPN Analyst After Massive Extension

Shots have been fired toward Stephen A Smith's direction.

Last week, Padres superstar Manny Machado and San Diego agreed to an 11-year, $350 million extension to keep the slugger in southern California for the rest of his career.

The extension was somewhat of a shock as the gold glove third baseman said he planned to opt out of his contract after the 2023 season. The suspense is over, and the Padres and their fans can rest easy as their superstar is here to stay.

The story doesn't end there, as after the news broke, Manny Machado's brother-in-law and former MLB All-Star Yonder Alonso decided to take a shot at ESPN analyst Stephen A Smith.

Smith criticized the Padres and the third baseman in 2019 after his initial contract of 10 years, $300 million. The video has now resurfaced thanks to the Twitter account, Talking Friars.

Take a look at what Stephen A had to say and the response by Alonso in the comment section.

Alonso defended his brother-in-law, commenting, "stick to baseball brooo #ClownTalk." Now in Stephen A's defense, baseball is not his strong suit, so maybe we shouldn't have taken his comments on this too seriously.

On the other hand, his reasons for concern were valid. Machado showed signs of immaturity and wouldn't hustle on certain plays before joining the Padres.

However, looking back at it, the Padres and Machado have made Smith eat his words as they are a championship contender and have been really good since Machado joined the Friars.

The 30-year-old has grown into the leader of the clubhouse and has propelled San Diego into a team that will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.

San Diego will enter the 2023 season having one of the best odds of winning the World Series, and they needed to cap season tickets after 'unprecedented' demand

Everyone loves a winning team, and it's safe to say the Padres are just that and a must-watch in San Diego and beyond.
