The San Diego Padres are dealing with a lot right now to say the least. Losing one game to the Washington Nationals at Petco Park would've been acceptable but an entire series? This is definitely not what the Friars needed right now as the wild card race slips further and further away from them.

Xander Bogaerts went off after San Diego's 8-3 loss and called out the team's offense for consistently not being able to perform. He made it clear that the pitching staff has been able to take care of business but that the hits continue to disappear at times. The 30-year-old star definitely did not enjoy losing to the worst team in the National League right now.

However, Bogaerts is still one of the primary leaders within the clubhouse and needs to make sure that morale remains high. When the 2023 season first kicked off and we first saw the Friars struggling to generate runs, Bogaerts was the lone superstar that was producing. He is still holding out faith that the Padres can make good on their goals heading into the series before the All-Star break.

“Ten and five, starting from this series, would’ve been nice,” said Bogaerts. “Obviously we’re already two losses in, so that’s not a good start. But it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. We still have a chance to turn that around -- 10-5, end on a really strong note. It’s been on the offense, if we’re going to be real about it. It’s been on us, man. The pitching has nothing to do with it. They’ve been excellent.”
