Before the All-Star break, San Diego Padres pitcher Blake Snell was one of the hottest in the game. He was essentially dominating opposing teams and looked almost un-hittable at times. His manager Bob Melvin has talked about how good Snell has been this season but after Snell’s latest start against the Philadelphia Phillies, there may be some tension brewing.

Melvin took Snell out of the game after 82 pitches despite him not giving up any runs. When asked about the decision Melvin said that Snell was "cooked" and that is where things turned.

Snell responded to his manager's choice of words with his own opinion.

“I wouldn’t say I was cooked,” said Snell, who has an MLB-low 0.62 ERA over 58 innings in his past 10 starts. “... I was playing it smart by not trying to overdo it.”

This could be nothing but for Snell to respond in that way makes you wonder. He is a free agent at the end of the season and there have been plenty of rumors that the Padres could move him if they continue to struggle before the trade deadline.

Maybe Snell didn't appreciate his manager saying he was cooked, which would be more than fair. He has been one of the few San Diego players that has been consistent all season long so it seemed like an unnecessary choice of words.

However, both of these guys are professionals and will likely be able to move on pretty quickly. The Padres have a goal in mind to try and win the World Series or to at least get back into contention. They are going to need their ace pitcher to be happy and for their sake, hopefully he doesn't dwell on this too long.
