It is now the month of July and the San Diego Padres hold a 37-45 record through the first half of the 2023 MLB season. Time and time again, the big four stay back after disappointing losses and try to explain exactly what is going on with them but an exact answer has yet to be found. Team manager Bob Melvin has not been quite happy with his own job of getting his guys to meet expectations this year and fans have been putting him on the spot as well.

And they've certainly had their moments where it looks like a big season turnaround is about to happen but every time they get close to .500, they fail to capitalize on their current series. It truly is a shame because as much as the rest of the baseball world does not want to admit, this current league would be much more fun to watch with the Padres playing up to their talent levels.

Xander Bogaerts was able to put the squad on his back the first couple of weeks into the season and really shine as a main batting option but health has played a key role in his inconsistency the past few weeks. At 30-years-old and one of the most experienced stars on San Diego, he sounded off about rumors that the Padres may look to make some big trades at the deadline.

“There’s no one walking in this door that is better than we have in here right now,” Bogaerts said. “We have everything we wanted, and we can’t ask any more. No one can walk in the room and be better than anyone we have. It’s up to us.”

Hopefully they remember this statement and show the world the truth in the second half of the season!
