Padres' NL West Rival Still in the Mix for Blake Snell: Report

Could Blake Snell remain in the NL West?

Speculation around Blake Snell has been swirling for months. It seems like with every passing day, there is another team interested in signing the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner who happens to remain on the free-agent market.

According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, the San Francisco Giants have emerged as a potential suitor for the southpaw.

"But for a bigger move to potentially shore up the rotation, there’s Blake Snell. The two-time Cy Young winner is still on the market, along with another Giants target, third baseman Matt Chapman. According to multiple sources, San Francisco remains in on both free agents, with one source gauging the team’s potential for signing one or the other at 50-50."

Snell has good numbers against the rest of the division — he has a 2.59 lifetime ERA against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who’ve hit him at just a .171 clip, and he's 5-1 against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 1.11 ERA.

The Giants would also love to not have to face a pitcher who is 5-1 with a 1.61 ERA against them.

San Francisco could build a rotation around Snell and ace Logan Webb, that includes Alex Cobb and Robbie Ray once they return from injury.

However, are the Giants willing to spend the money that Snell is clearly holding out for?

That question remains unanswered.
