Padres to Trade Outfielder to Houston Astros: Report
The San Diego Padres have reportedly traded outfielder Oliver Carrillo to the Houston Astros in exchange for International Bonus Pool money.
Sammy Levitt of 97.3 The Fan Padres radio reported the news on Tuesday evening.
Carrillo, 22, has spent the last two seasons on the Padres Dominican League teams.
He appeared in 91 games over the last two years, slashing .315/.505/.611 with 20 home runs and 75 runs batted in.
Carrillo was born in Mexico and plays the outfield and first base. He was signed by the Padres to a minor league contract back in December 2021.
Carrillo is now heading to Houston, who are sending back money to the Friars.
The Friars brought in another huge international class this year, headlined by top prospect Leodalis De Vries. He and last year's top prospect, Ethan Salas, are already close friends and are getting ready to make headlines in the Padres' system.
It's never a bad thing to have extra international money, especially as top international prospect Roki Sasaki could be posted to MLB as early as next offseason.
Yu Darvish has already done his fair share of recruiting, including sending Sasaki a Padres outfit which he was seen wearing earlier this month.
