Adolis García 'Disappointed' Deal With Texas Rangers Headed For Arbitration Hearing

Two-time All-Star outfielder Adolis García is likely headed to an arbitration hearing if he and the Texas Rangers don't agree on a deal in the next week.

ARLINGTON — Texas Rangers All-Star right-fielder Adolis García could still work out a deal before next week's scheduled arbitration hearing.

Rangers general manager Chris Young said the two sides remain amicable.

"We’ve had very good dialogue and continue to and expect to into the next week," Young said. "I’ve been very encouraged by the back-and-forth."

García, who turns 31 on March 2, is in his first year of arbitration after blossoming into a two-time All-Star with the Rangers. The Rangers acquired García for cash considerations in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals on Dec. 21, 2019.

Garcia was the only arbitration-eligible player the Rangers failed to come to terms with two weeks ago. García requested $6.9 million. The Rangers offered $5 million.

"Everybody knows the situation we’re in. Right now, we’re waiting on the hearing that’s coming," García said before the team's awards dinner at Globe Life Field on Friday.

García, who missed the final two World Series games with an oblique strain, said he rested for a month and started working out in mid-December.

"We’re feeling good," he said.

As for his contract situation, García is trying to remain positive.

"It’s hard for me because you know how I play; everybody knows me; I just go out there every time to get the win for the team," he said. "I try to be a good teammate. I don't understand how this works. I'm a little bit disappointed, but it is what it is. I’m here to help the club and be the same guy."
