No Stranger To Awards! Texas Rangers MVP Corey Seager Announces CMA Award Winner
Corey Seager has won his share of awards.
On Wednesday night, however, he was handing them out.
The Texas Rangers shortstop and World Series MVP Corey Seager was a guest presenter at the Country Music Awards at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
Seager helped country music artists Parker McCollum (noted Houston Astros fan) and Brian Kelley present the winner for Single of the Year.
The appearance included some of the typical award-show banter with Seager setting up the music stars for a joke. After they took turns congratulating Seager on winning the World Series, he responded with: "Thanks, guys. That last game was tough. There's always a lot of pressure for that big hit."
Both singers replied with the payoff: "Tell us about it!"
Seager, who led the Rangers to their first World Series championship last week, got to open the envelope and read the winner.
"And the CMA Award goes to 'Fast Car,' Luke Combs," Seager announced, for Combs' cover of Tracy Chapman's 1988 pop hit, which took country radio by storm earlier this year.
Seager, who is a two-time World Series MVP, batted .318 with six home runs and 12 RBI in 17 postseason games, including three homers and six RBI in five World Series games. He's the fourth player in MLB history to win multiple World Series MVP awards. The others are Sandy Koufax (1963, 1965), Bob Gibson (1964, 1967), Reggie Jackson (1973, 1977).
