Sebastian Walcott was the crown jewel of the 2023 international signing class for the Texas Rangers.

Since being called stateside to the Arizona Complex League, he’s been showing off his power against rookie league pitching.

His fifth home run of 2023 — all coming since he joined the ACL Rangers on June 24 — happened last weekend.

The Rangers transferred Walcott from the Dominican Summer League on June 17 to the ACL, where he enjoyed a week off before facing ACL pitching.

With the Rangers DSL team, Walcott slashed just .161/.381/.323/.704 with no home runs and three RBI.

But since his promotion to Arizona, he’s been blistering the baseball. In 10 games, he slashed .395/.422/.884/1.306 with five home runs and 10 RBI.

The 17-year-old shortstop is the No. 14 prospect in the Rangers organization and is projected as a 2028 call-up.

Walcott was the No. 8 international prospect signed 17 international players in January. At the time, he drew comparisons physically to Miami’s Jazz Chisholm, who is also from the Bahamas. MLB.com scouts project him as a potential 30-home-run hitter in the future.

Walcott had been training at the Elite International Academy.

The Rangers signed him to a $3.2 million bonus, the sixth-largest bonus in the 2023 class.

The only other Rangers Top 30 prospect playing in rookie league ball is Chandler Pollard, a 19-year-old middle infielder who was selected in the fifth round of last year’s draft and went to the same high school as former Texas outfielder Delino DeShields Jr.
