Travis Jankowski Timetable for Texas Rangers Return

Texas Rangers general manager Chris Young provided an update on Travis Jankowski, who went on the 10-day injured list last week.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Rangers outfielder Travis Jankowski will not be ready to return when his stint on the 10-day injured list is up, according to general manager Chris Young.

Jankowski left the May 7 game at the Los Angeles Angels after tweaking a hamstring crossing the plate in the 16-8 victory.

After the game he was diagnosed with right hamstring tightness. The Rangers put Jankowski on the injured list on May 9, retroactive to May 8, and called up catcher Sam Huff from Triple-A Round Rock.

Jankowski is eligible to be activated from the injured list on Friday.

“Hopefully a few days after that we can get him some at-bats and see how he’s feeling and if he’s ready to go,” Young said.

Jankowski is batting .309 with nine RBI this season. With the injury to shortstop Corey Seager, Jankowski was one of the main options for manager Bruce Bochy at the No. 2 spot in the batting order.

The Rangers are also 17-7 with Jankowski in the lineup this season.

The Rangers signed the former first-round pick before Spring Training and nearly cut him before it was clear that injured center fielder Leody Taveras would not be ready for Opening Day. The Rangers kept Jankowski and he’s made himself a valuable part of their outfield rotation.
