Texas Rangers Top Pick Wyatt Langford Wraps Up Great First Week

Wyatt Langford was the Texas Rangers' first-round pick in July and is now working his way up the minor-league ladder.

Texas Rangers first-round pick Wyatt Langford wrapped up his first week with High Class-A Hickory with a 1-for-2, three-walk performance in the Crawdads’ 7-1 win over Aberdeen on Sunday.

The Rangers sent Langford to Hickory last week after he played three games with their Arizona Complex League rookie team.

He tripled in his first at-bat with the Crawdads on Wednesday. He batted third, played left field and went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Langford ended up getting at least one hit each of his first four games, including another triple in his second game.

In four starts Langford slashed .375/.524/.688/1.212 with a double, a triple, two RBI, five walks and five strikeouts.

His numbers remained steady after his transfer from the ACL Rangers. In three games he batted .385 (5-for-13) with a 1.275 OPS.

The Rangers selected Langford No. 4 overall in July out of Florida, where he was a standout for his final two seasons with the Gators.

As a sophomore, he batted .356/.447/.719 while matching the school record with 26 home runs. He batted .373/.498/.784 with 21 home runs and 56 extra-base hits as a junior.

While at the Men’s College World Series in June, he batted .375 with seven extra-base hits, three home runs and nine RBI, including a six-RBI outing in Game 2 of the College World Series final against LSU.
