Red Sox Reportedly Will Be In On All 'Big-Name Starting Pitchers' This Winter

Boston is planning on making a splash this offseason

The Boston Red Sox might finally bring in one of the league's most prominent pitchers.

Boston's lack of pitching might finally be coming to an end after this offseason, as the team reportedly is targeting some of the biggest names in baseball.

"Boston will be in on all of the big-name starting pitchers this winter, including Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Aaron Nola and Blake Snell," MassLive's Christ Cotillo wrote Friday.

"Shohei Ohtani won’t pitch in 2024 but the Red Sox will try for him, too. Other free agents like old friend Eduardo Rodriguez and veterans Lucas Giolito, Jordan Montgomery and Sonny Gray will be in play. The Red Sox will leave no stone unturned in their quest to add rotation help."

Boston posted a 4.52 ERA last season, good for No. 21 in Major League Baseball. It's clear the Red Sox desperately need to improve not just their rotation, but the pitching staff entirely.

Following a disappointing last-place finish in the American League East, it's encouraging to hear that the newly hired chief of baseball Craig Breslow plans on tackling the club's pitching problem.

A combination of a freshly reset luxury tax and an aggressive mindset could line Boston up to grab some of the best available starting pitchers this winter -- which in turn will aid the entire pitching staff's production.
